About

Dr. ShaRae Mansfield Founder/Executive Director

My journey began 29 years ago and was filled with pain, disappointment and tears (tons). "Cry me a river". The Ohio, Nile, Amazon and all the others. I'm actually "all cried out".  Lol, those songs are classics, but how I felt. I can laugh now. But not then.

I was a former high school, college and professional basketball player with no clue that I had Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). It was my journey with these conditions that motivated me to want to form a nonprofit (Pivot Psychology Consulting, Inc.) that would help people just like myself, after being diagnosed with these conditions,13 years ago (RA) and 5 (MS) years later. I still played basketball regardless of the pain starting in middle school (1990)! Later I went on to play professionally in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and overseas in Israel 29 years ago not knowing of either condition or seeing the need to pivot until I had no choice.

Here comes the pivot. Long story short and multiple surgeries later, my basketball career ended. The teams couldn’t invest in an injured player. I came home depressed, however, went back to college finished my bachelor’s, and 10 years later finished my master's in industrial and organizational (IO) Psychology and PhD in Business Psychology (BP)/Consulting Track another 9 years later.

My personal and traumatic pivot motivated me to start an organization, with the assistance of God, family, friends, and a lot of prayer, so that we can help individuals and groups deal with life’s unexpected changes and challenges.

Our Story

As a nonprofit our focus at Pivot Psychology Consulting Inc., is on guiding individuals through life changes with personalized support. Our mission and aim are to help people change, transition and adapt (CTA) and thrive during their pivots. We provide tailored online and in-person services to suit their needs. As the Founder and Executive Director of Pivot, I want to help you understand that we service a diverse population of people. This includes organizations and their leaders and employees, athletic teams and their coaches and players. As well as individuals suffering with chronic conditions.
Time to Pivot?

A Change focus

I understand that changes or pivots are often inevitable. The unpredictable ones may be the most difficult to navigate. Moreover, after the change, follows the transition and adaptation to the pivot that has occurred. As said previously we are here to help you develop a plan or blueprint to navigate your pivot successfully.

I am not a mental health therapist or counselor, however, if during our session I feel the need to refer you to another specialist that I have a professional relationship with, I’d be honored to. Look at Pivot’s team. I went to school with Dr. Stevie and Dr. Linda, and they are the specialist I am referring to, below.

As I said my specialty as a doctor, scientist, and researcher is not mental health. My degrees are not clinical but are applied psychology degrees. Industrial and Organizational Psychology (IO-MS) and Business Psychology (BP-Ph.D.) are both applied psychology degrees that use psychological methods and findings to solve practical real-life problems of human behavior and life experiences.
